Before You Head to The Neurology Hospital In Hyderabad Here is What You Need to Know About Brain Stroke

There are two major types of strokes - the one caused by a blocked artery (ischemic stroke) or the one caused by leaking or bursting of a blood vessel (hemorrhagic stroke).

Types of Strokes

1) Almost 85% of strokes are ischemic strokes, which can be further sub-divided as -

Thrombotic stroke. This occurs when blood clots in one of the arteries that is responsible for supplying blood to your brain. The clot may occur because of fatty deposits that build up in arteries.

Embolic stroke. This occurs when blood clots away from your brain, generally in the heart, and sweeps through your bloodstream to block in the arteries of the brain.

2) Hemorrhagic stroke can be further classified as -

Intracerebral hemorrhage. A blood vessel in the brain bursts, spilling into the surrounding tissue and damaging the brain cells.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage. An artery ear the surface of the brain bursts, spilling into the space between the brain and the skull.

Some of the conditions that lead to a brain stroke can include

High Blood Pressure

Hypertension

Weak Blood Vessels

Obesity

Diabetes

High Cholesterol

Heavy Drinking

Drugs (Cocaine)

Sleep Apnea

Cardiovascular Diseases

If your family has a history of stroke, it can affect you as well. Mostly, stroke occurs after the age of 55 and men seem to be more prone to it than women.

Symptoms

Slurry speech and difficulty understanding.

Complete or partial paralysis or numbness of the face, arm or leg.

Headache accompanied by vomiting or dizziness.

Trouble with walking.

Loss of balance or co-ordination.

How to identify a Stroke

If you suspect a friend or a family member to be suffering from a stroke, use the following steps to quickly identify -

Face: Ask the person to smile. If he/she has difficulty smiling or if the face droops on one side, it is a sign of a stroke.

Speech: Check the person for slurry speech or problems with communication.

Time: If you note any of the above signs, it is time to call the emergency. Remember, stroke can be treated within 4-5 hours from its onset, so rush the patient to the Neurology hospital in Hyderabad immediately.
